Ship's Bell Clock Instructions
Upon arrival, the hammer will be restrained by a rubber band. That rubber band must be CAREFULLY removed.
Pull the plastic plug located on the backside of the clock to access the hammer. Gently remove the rubber band from
the brass bell strike hammer. Once the rubber band is removed, replace the plastic plug. Now you must wind both the
bell hammer gears and the movement. Locate the two keyholes on the front dial. Using the key, turn each until you feel
a resistance from the springs. Do not over wind, this will cause the main spring to break or jam and lock the movement.
Once both have been wound, set your time by opening the front porthole and turning the minute hand clockwise very slowly.
It is important to allow the bell to strike the proper number of times as you pass each half hour and hour mark. Never move
the minute hand counter clockwise, this will cause the bell strike schedule to be incorrect. Once you have your correct
time set you can advance or retard the time each day until you have your clock regulated to a correct 24 hour period.
The lever for night shut off is on the right. The lever for the advance and retard of the clock speed
is on the left. Advance or retard only requires a slight movement either way. If for some reason
you are unable to regulate the time using the advance or retard lever or the bell tone is very soft or without tone
it may need to be sent back to Hermle for fine tuning. This can only be done by Hermle.
In the event that adjustment is needed, please contact Hermle in Virgina. If the bell clock is within its warranty period,
Hermle will mail out a shipping label to return the clock for fine tuning. Always return your bell clock in its original
shipping box with foam, this is a requirement by Hermle.

The ship's bell strikes every 30 minutes and increments by one strike every half hour over a 4 hour
period until it reaches 8 strikes. The bell strike begins with a single strike at half past midnight and counting up to 8 bell strikes at 4:00 a.m.
marking the end of the 4 hour watch period. At this point the bell strike pattern begins again at a single strike at 4:30
and counts up to 8 strikes to 8:00. The cycle is continuous over the 24 hour period.
Bell Strike Schedule:
· 12:00, 4:00, 8:00 =8 bell strikes
· 12:30, 4:30, 8:30 =1 bell strike
· 1:00, 5:00, 9:00 =2 bell strikes
· 1:30, 5:30, 9:30 =3 bell strikes
· .... continues counting up to 8 bell strikes
